"Code of Conduct"

We want this to be a happy, healthy, vibrant community for all sports fans. So please know the rules before you post.

“Toronto Maple Leafs Fan Association Code of Conduct”

The Toronto Sports Talk Forum Message Boards are a public forum run by very dedicated sports fans and volunteers, while we encourage a free flow of information and ideas on the boards; we also ask that you follow a few basic rules. We don’t ask our members to pay to use the boards so by using or participating on the Toronto Sports Talk Forum Message Boards, you agree to the Rules of Conduct as stated below, as well as the Toronto Sports Talk, Terms of Service. We want this to be a happy, healthy, vibrant community for all Toronto sports fans.

Here are some things you'll want to keep in mind while posting on the Toronto Sports Talk message boards:

1. Copyrighted Material
Toronto Sports Talk Message Board users agree not to post any material that is protected by copyright, trademark or other proprietary right without the express permission of the owner(s) of said copyright, trademark or other proprietary right. An avatar logo of your favorite team is allowed, but the posting of it is your sole responsibility.

2. Flaming, Bashing, and Trolling
Hate posts and personal attacks will not be tolerated on the Toronto Sports Talk Message Boards. Treat others on these message boards as you would expect them to treat you. Talking trash about another user is a quick way to earn a banning, as is posting topics specifically to provoke a negative response from someone (AKA TROLLING: by definition means “The act of posting a message in a newsgroup that is obviously exaggerating something on a particular topic, hoping to trick a newbie into posting a follow-up article that points out the mistake or that derogates the reputation of a company or individual”). Fans from other teams are more than welcome to visit and post in the appropriate boards. Trolling is not welcome.  We have provided a specific board for this very reason. Posts must be kept civil or you will be banned.

3. Profanity And Sexism
Keep offensive language to a zero. If you want your post to be read, avoid profanity or your post will be immediately deleted without notice. While we might let you get away with anything you might hear on network television (no, NOT cable) or radio, don't go overboard. Simply editing a few letters with an asterisk or other symbols isn't allowed, either. A simple rule to follow is: "when in doubt, leave it out." You don't have to use profanity to get your point across, and it's usually better to avoid it altogether. Also, Racism and sexism will be deleted immediately and the offender will be banned. We have a kaleidoscope of fans of different ages and religious backgrounds that visit our forums so please keep this in mind.

4. Spam
Purposely spamming a message board with senseless, vacuous, or empty messages to gain more stars is highly frowned upon!  This includes such things as party posts, chain letters, two-word "I agree" or "me too" responses, continually posting the same topic on a particular board, and posting the same question across several boards. Spamming your personal or commercial site will not be tolerated. We have provided an Affiliates page on our Toronto Sports Talk site and would be happy to add your site to our links, if it's sports related. If it's not sports related, email us to discuss where you can be listed.

Posting fake news headlines is not allowed. The poster will be banned for a two week period. If the user is caught doing it again the ban will be increased or be permanently banned.

5.   Tickets & Equipment Board referred to here as the “Classifieds”
A)    The Classified boards are designed as a forum where you can sell, buy, or trade items with your fellow Toronto Sports Talk members. Please only post item threads in these forums. They may be deleted anywhere else. You may want to include an email address where someone can contact you.

B)   Bootlegs, pirated games, CD’s, or any other illegal material may NOT be listed on the Toronto Sports Talk Classified Board. These posts WILL be deleted and the user may be banned.

C)    You are allowed to bump your listing a maximum of two times, but please no more. If someone wants to buy your goods, they will contact you. Also note that these boards are for direct transactions, auctions and bidding wars aren't allowed.

D)   TorontoSportsTalk.com is in no way involved in the actual transaction between buyers and sellers on the Classified boards. These boards are only meant as a means for users to sell, trade, and buy goods, and TorontoSportsTalk.com accepts no responsibility for the legality, safety, accuracy, or legitimacy of the items listed on the Classified boards. Since we cannot guarantee that a buyer or seller will complete a transaction, both parties accept full responsibility for any transactions transpiring through the Toronto Sports Talk message boards.

6.   Piracy, ROMs, and Warez

Definition Warez: (pronounced: wheres)

Widely used in cracker subcultures to denote cracked versions of commercial software; that is, versions in which the copyright-protection has been stripped out. Hackers recognize this term but don't use it themselves. It is also considered by some to be a catchall term for software which includes firmware, freeware, groupware, shareware, shovelware, vaporware, wankware, and wetware.

Toronto Sports Talk has a very strict policy against piracy, ROMs, Warez, and the illegal use of copyrighted material. Linking or giving information about any site that distributes illegal software, ROMs, media, or emulators, seeking help to circumvent any copyright laws, admitting to possessing and/or distributing illegal copyrighted material, or encouraging software or media piracy is grounds for an immediate ban. This goes for all copyrighted material, including but not limited to games, movies, music, and videos.

7.  Impersonating Other Users / Accessing Another User's Account
You may not impersonate another board member or create an account specifically for the purpose of provoking other users. Also, accessing or using someone else's account or attempting to access another poster's account is strictly prohibited.

8.   Altering Board Code
Altering or changing the code and/or exploiting code bugs for purposes other than what the message boards were intended to do is strictly prohibited. On a similar note, using automatic scripts on any one of the Toronto Sports Talk forums is also not permitted. Hacking, altering board code, exploiting code bugs and using scripts are all grounds for an immediate and permanent ban.

9.   Off-Topic Posts
Okay, so you probably won't get banned for an off-topic post, but c'mon, try to post suitable subjects on each of the appropriate boards. Each board has a heading READ IT BEFORE YOU POST. Off-topic posts will most likely be deleted, and further action may be taken against repeat offenders.

10.   Posting Huge Images
Out of respect for your 56k brethren, please let them know if your thread contains a number of large images. A simple **56kers Beware!** in the subject line will go a long way in helping those who are broadband-challenged know not to open a thread that might bring their web browsing to a crawl.

11.   Multiple user accounts are prohibited on the same board.

12.   Please do not post full news articles.  Give a brief synopsis and then link it to the article.

13.   Circumventing a Ban
If you log onto any of the Toronto Sports Talk Message Boards and receive a message that you have been banned, please submit an unban request and wait for a Toronto Sports Talk Message Board moderator to get in touch with you. It is not acceptable to return to the boards under another username. If you do, your ban time may be extended.

14.   Questionable Content
Since we can't have a rule to cover everything, this is the rule to, well, cover everything. These are public boards, so act like you would if you were in a public place. These issues are left to the discretion of the individual moderators, but may include any material that is knowingly false and/or defamatory, misleading, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, racist, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, that otherwise violates any law, or that encourages conduct constituting a criminal offense.

There are many posts each day on the Toronto Sports Talk message boards, so we can't always promise you'll receive a warning every time action has to be taken. By registering on a specific Toronto Sports Talk Message Board, users agree that any post deemed inappropriate may be removed at the sole discretion of Toronto Sports Talk . Toronto Sports Talk also has the right, at its sole discretion, to revoke board privileges at any time without notice or reason. Think of these rules as a forewarning and, if you break them, you're taking your account status into your own hands.

15.   Videos are not allowed in or on your signature, if you do place one there you will be asked to remove it. Please save us the time by not putting one there in the first place. If you do not remove it, it will be removed for you.

16.   Please note that the Board Rules extend to all areas of the Toronto Sports Talk Message Boards system, including but not limited to Private Messages, Signatures, and Unban Requests.

17.   Toronto Sports Talk is not responsible for messages posted on any of the Toronto Sports Talk Message Boards or the content therein. Unless expressly stated otherwise, this includes messages posted by Toronto Sports Talk personnel, agents, representatives et al. Toronto Sports Talk reserves the right to reveal the identity of or whatever information we know about any user in the event of a complaint or legal action arising from any message posted by said user.

18.   Toronto Sports Talk has the right but not the obligation to monitor and/or moderate the Toronto Sports Talk Message Boards. Toronto Sports Talk reserves the right to change any or all other parts of this User Agreement at its sole discretion and without notice, including but not limited to implementing Rules of Conduct, Terms of Service and/or other measures.

Failure to abide by these rules may lead to a temporary or even a permanent banning. Remember the
